School Pedagogy
At JBBS, our pedagogy revolves around the child as the central focus of education. We prioritize enhancing each child’s individual capabilities and build upon their prior knowledge in every activity. Our approach is to facilitate learning rather than emphasizing testing. The facilitator keenly observes children during their active engagement in exploration, investigation, thinking and communication. We plan to suit each child’s abilities and interest providing stability with flexibility to accommodate individuals’ differences. Encouraging children to express themselves through conversations with adults and peers promotes language and thinking skills.
In the early years, teachers take an active role in writing for the child, allowing them to closely observe the writing process. The teacher reads back to the child, and language learning is optimized when teacher use the child’s own words. Our environment is print-rich and teachers read stories, jokes, rhymes and riddles to children.
We value invented spellings up to the age of 5 and 6, understanding that textbooks or any book can start illustrations, but true learning for children occurs through concrete experiences. Text books are used as a reference and various books and worksheets are there in the class library area.
Children learn best when they can explore and experience things first hand. This includes using materials and being part of real situations that spark their curiosity and emotions. They acquire knowledge, skills and the right attitude through age-appropriate activities. Quality interactions help them practice and refine their skills. Children are involved in planning activities and the environment, expressing themselves through drawing, playing with sand and water, dancing, cutting and pasting, singing etc. Teachers listen to children and follow their thoughts, giving them time to think before respond. This autonomy helps children to understand themselves and others.
